In May of this year I purchased my first used Conex Box at an Estate Auction. This brings up an important question when considering building a Conex home. Where do I buy shipping containers?
There are many resellers of used Conex Boxes. A simple internet search for shipping containers will display site listing after site listing of container resellers. I priced containers from a few of the resellers and found that a used 40′ shipping container in good condition will cost from $3,000-$4,000 plus cost to deliver to your location. Of course most will offer cheaper prices if you are purchasing multiple containers. There are other options.
Check the classifieds section of your local newspaper or neighborhood websites. Many businesses use shipping containers for temporary storage and will sell them at a significant cost reduction when they are no longer needed.
Websites such as Ebay and Craigslist will often have posts for used containers for sale. Try to find post from individuals or small businesses as opposed to large resellers. Remember that shipping costs to relocate the container to your location can add significant expense. Try to find containers as close to your location as possible to save on moving costs.
Auctions can be a good place to save on shipping container costs. Industrial auctions and Estate auctions are a couple auction types where good deals may be found.
Take your time and shop around and you will find some good deals.
